A partnership built on local history brings more boating options to Shore Drive
Legasea Marine is expanding its presence into southern Hampton Roads with the launch of “Legasea at Browning’s Marine,” a new sales location on Shore Drive that brings Legasea’s most popular boat models directly to the Chic’s Beach corridor.
This collaboration marks an exciting step for Legasea Marine’s growth in the Mid-Atlantic region, making its boats more accessible to Virginia Beach boaters and the communities south of the company’s primary location in Yorktown. For Browning’s Marine, the partnership adds a next-generation lineup of high-quality vessels, complementing its current sales and service offerings.
This partnership is a natural fit between two long-established names in the region’s boating community. Legasea Marine’s Hall family has been a yacht sales and service mainstay in Hampton Roads, and beyond, for nearly 60 years. And Browning’s Marine, a third-generation family business, has been an essential piece of the local boating fabric since 1955. The Browning’s shop, located at 3829 Shore Drive, recently began a full interior refresh to create an expanded indoor showroom to accommodate larger vessels. Along with the Bentley Pontoons displayed by Browning’s Marine, beginning in December, customers will be able to view a curated lineup of new models from Albemarle, Axopar, Contender, MJM, Monterey, Parker and Phenom Yachts offered for sale by Legasea Marine.

A Partnership Rooted in Local Boating Heritage
The collaboration carries special meaning for both the Hall and Browning families. In the 1960s, Chris Hall, Sr., purchased a Mercury outboard from Rudy Browning to put on a river racer he had just bought. The Halls and Brownings later became friendly rivals on the boat racing circuit, often competing head-to-head at regional and national events.
But there’s even deeper local history—Chris Hall, Jr.’s uncle, Bill Brooks, once owned the same Shore Drive property in the 1960s, when it operated as Bayside Boats, before Browning’s Marine relocated there from Military Highway in Norfolk.
“This partnership just feels right. It’s two local families who grew up around boats, racing, and the water,” said Chris Hall, Jr., President of Legasea Marine. “We’re excited to make it easier for our friends and new customers on the Southside to see and experience our models at this premier location, which is known for great customer service in a family-first atmosphere.”
Expanded Offerings near Lynnhaven Inlet
Boats offered by Legasea and Browning’s will be on display both in- and out-doors to give customers more space to explore each model up close at the upgraded facility. “We’re proud to welcome Legasea to Shore Drive,” said TJ Browning. “Our customers crave ways to enjoy their proximity to water and enjoy time with family and friends. This partnership lets us offer that while continuing a tradition that goes back generations!”
